Detection of a "delta" strain is not a cause for panic
Delta strain of coronavirus was detected in 31 persons in Azerbaijan who arrived from abroad.
The Ministry of Health, the State Agency for Compulsory Health Insurance and the Association for the Management of Territorial Medical Units (AMTMU (TƏBİB)), which issued a joint statement on July 13, noted that 9 persons were diagnosed with the British variant of the infection.
The British strain of coronavirus in Azerbaijan has been detected earlier, but the "delta" strain was registered for the first time.
The "Delta" strain, which has spread in many countries around the world that has softened the quarantine regime, has served to introduce new lockdowns and various restrictions. Scientists say the delta strain is more infectious and aggressive than previous strains.
Is the toughening of the quarantine regime expected in Azerbaijan? Is there such a need?
Member of the Milli Majlis Health Committee Malahat Ibrahimgizi told Turan that the adoption of restrictive measures depends on the population. "The operational headquarters has allowed holding weddings and charity ceremonies from July 1 within the framework of certain rules. However, unfortunately, people do not follow these rules. Again, the number of guests at weddings is more than the norm, protective masks are not used, and social distance is not observed. The world is not experiencing a coronavirus pandemic. "
The member of the committee noted that a noticeable increase in the dynamics of coronavirus infection has been observed in Azerbaijan in recent days. “If the population does not follow the rules, then, of course, any tightening can be applied. We understand that people are already tired, but the established rules must be strictly observed."
M. Ibrahimgizi stressed that people must be vaccinated without fail. "Vaccinations are the best way to protect yourself from this disease."
One of the founders of the Public Association of Doctors of Azerbaijan, a radiologist Aydin Aliyev said that some issues must be clarified. “Don't panic. How many people out of 31 infected with the "delta" strain, carry the disease in a mild form and how many in a severe form? Maybe there are no serious patients at all? Have they been vaccinated? The public should be aware of this. But there was no explanation."
The specialist noted that it is necessary to make a decision based on the current situation. “In our country, up to half of the population has been vaccinated, and some are infected and are recovering. Therefore, in my opinion, there is no need for toughening”. -0-

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.

In the last two days, a "news" story appeared on TikTok about a whale spotted on Baku's seaside boulevard. The most "observant" users posted videos, commenting on the size of the animal. Later, other "witnesses" claimed it wasn't a whale, but a shark. Even later, a version emerged suggesting it was a submarine.
