The court rejected the complaint of F. Mehralyzade about inhuman treatment
On January 28, the Sabail District Court reviewed the complaint of the detained journalist of "Radio Azadliq," Farid Mehralyzade, regarding the prosecutor's refusal to recognize the fact of violence against him during his arrest.
Farid was subjected to physical violence during his arrest, his wife, Nargiz Mukhtarova, reported to Turan. He was grabbed on the street, a bag was put over his head, he was placed in a car, and handcuffed. His car keys and mobile phone were taken from him. He was beaten during the journey. After being held in an unknown location, he was taken to the Main Police Department of Baku, and only there was the bag removed from his head.
"We applied twice to the prosecutor's office with a complaint, but they did not acknowledge the fact of torture," said Mukhtarova.
The complaint requested data from street surveillance cameras and antenna data from the journalist's mobile phone. However, during the investigation, the prosecutor's office did not provide this data and only took the statements of the police officers, who claimed that no violence had occurred against Mehralyzade. Nevertheless, the Sabail court also rejected the complaint. The court's verdict will also be appealed.
Farid Mehralyzade was arrested on May 30 and charged in the “Abzas Media” case. Initially, he was accused of smuggling foreign currency. Following the investigation, all the individuals involved in the case were charged with seven additional Articles of the Criminal Code related to economic crimes.
