Mohiyaddin Orudjev
Trial in the case of Mohiyaddin Orudjev
On January 28, another hearing took place in the Baku Serious Crimes Court regarding the case of activist Mohiyaddin Orudjev. During the session, a police officer who was involved in Orudjev's detention testified as a witness.
At the request of the defense, a 6-second video sent by Orudjev just before his arrest was shown. The video was interrupted, but Orudjev managed to send the recording to a friend. The video proves that Orudjev was arrested at the company where he works, and not near School No. 42, which is 3 km away from the location indicated by the investigation.
The defense then requested the summoning of four additional witnesses. However, the court agreed to invite only one of them – an employee of the company. The next hearing is scheduled for February 4.
*Orudjev was arrested on December 13, 2023, on charges of large-scale drug trafficking (Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan). Earlier, in October 2023, he was arrested administratively for 30 days on charges of disobeying the police.
After his release, Orudjev stated that the real reason for his arrest was his criticism of the authorities on social media. He also complained of being beaten and subjected to inhuman treatment by the police. Orudjev was recognized by human rights organizations as a political prisoner. After his arrest, he joined the alternative trade union confederation "Worker's Platform" (Işçi Masası) in absentia.
