Event dedicated to the anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Iran
The World Azerbaijanis Congress (WAC) held a round table on Wednesday in connection with the 69 anniversary of the Azerbaijan People's Republic of (North of Iran.) Co-Chair of the WAC Sabir Rustamkhanli recalled that December 10 is celebrated worldwide as Human Rights Day. The absence of channels representatives at the event, he explained by "warming" relations between Baku and Tehran recently.
The result of this "warming" were even attempts to close the WAC. Sabir Rustamkhanli went over some members of parliament, without naming those who do not believe in the idea of a united Azerbaijan. He said that there was a time when nobody believed that the USSR will collapse.
With regard to the establishment of the Azerbaijan People's Republic in 1945 which lasted only a year, that "a historic event was a victory of the Turks," he said.
After the suppression of the revolution by Pahlavi regime, Azerbaijanis were deprived of many of the material and spiritual wealth in Iran.
Chairman of the Permanent Council of the WAC Ajdar Taghizadeh criticized statements by Iranian President Rouhani, who visited recently Baku. In particular, Rouhani spoke of the need to combat nationalism and radicalism that was directed against the Turks of South Azerbaijan. Chairman of the party "Musavat" Arif Hajili proposed to declare 2015 the year of Azerbaijan People Republic, and celebrate large –scale its 70th birthday.

Last night, three earthquakes occurred along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border with magnitudes of 4.8, 3.0, and 3.8, according to the Republican Center for Seismological Service of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported no information about any destruction or casualties as a result of the earthquakes.
