"Ganja Prisoner" Dying

Baku / 08.07.19 / Turan: Arrested in connection with the Ganja events of July 2018, Aydin Gurbanov fell into a coma. This was reported by Mahbuba Gurbanova.

On July 8, she visited her husband in the Medical Facility of the Prison Service.

During the 15-minute meeting, Gurbanov began to vomit blood, and then fell into a coma.

According to the woman, despite the efforts of doctors to save her husband, they will fail and he has only a few days left to live.

Gurbanov is prosecuted under Art. 228.3 (illegal arms trafficking as part of an organized armed group) of the Criminal Code.

After his arrest, he was diagnosed with cancer.

M. Gurbanova reported that after visiting her husband, she met with the deputy head of the Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General"s Office, Vugar Nasibov.

"I asked them to give Aydin that lost his consciousness to us so that he would at least die at home. However, the investigator said that he could not do this and had to wait for the trial," said M. Gurbanova.

It was not possible to get comments from the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice and the Prosecutor General's Office due to the completion of the working day.

* On July 3, 2018, in Ganja, an attempt was made on the then head of the city, Elmar Veliyev. A native of Ganja, Younis Safarov wounded him and his bodyguard.

After that, in social networks, a protest action was scheduled for July 10 in front of the Ganja administration building against Veliyev.

On July 10, the MIA reported on the unrest in Ganja, during which two police officers were killed. Following this, mass arrests among believers began. In total about 60 people were brought to criminal responsibility. Another 6 people were killed while providing armed resistance.

In early March, two groups of the accused (14 people) were already sentenced to various terms ranging from 5 to 8 years in prison on charges of participating in mass riots and violence against police officers. -05B06-
