Giant Traffic Jams in Center of Baku

Kilometers of traffic jams paralyzed the center of Baku on August 17. This happened after the traffic was completely blocked on Oilmen Avenue (seafront) and in several adjoining streets (Azerbaijan Avenue, Rasul Rza Street and Niyazi Street). About three weeks ago they began laying new water pipelines on Oilmen Avenue and several road sections were dug.

As a result, traffic was blocked on these routes, and other main streets were also overwhelmed, because they cannot cope with so many cars. Thousands of cars are in traffic jams for hours, unable to move.

Traffic police do not give intelligible explanation of what is happening and how long Oilmen Avenue will be closed. Earlier the repairers promised to complete all the work by August 5, but as always, they did not comply with the stated terms. Apparently, this situation will continue for at least a month, maybe more.

So far, the movement on foot is the best mode of transport in the capital, despite the 35 degree heat. -02B-
