Ilgar Mammadov: Democratic Values Still Stronger Than Gas
Baku / 19.06.18 / Turan: "Participation in the June 12 opening ceremony of the TANAP gas pipeline of four of the eight countries - Azerbaijan, Turkey, Serbia and Ukraine, does not surprise me." This was stated by the leader of the REAL Party Ilgar Mammadov, who is serving his sentence in Prison No.2.
In the statement by Ilgar Mammadov, distributed by the REAL Party, he demands that the European Court's decision be implemented, and shows a parallel.
"On December 5 of last year, the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe officially began to perform specifically against the government, first applying article 46.4 of the Convention. 39 out of 44 people voted for this decision and 8 countries did not support it. Four of these eight countries (Azerbaijan, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine) participated, at the highest level - at the level of the presidents - at the opening ceremony of the TANAP gas pipeline on June 12. During the ceremony, the flag of Georgia was also posted, but from here - from prison - it's hard to know who exactly official Tbilisi sent to the ceremony," Mammadov said.
He also notes that Russia demonstrates its neutral position regarding the Southern Gas Corridor project, of which TANAP is a part.
Ilgar Mammadov emphasizes that the South Gas Corridor is not a project directed against Russia.
"SGC is not an anti-Russian project, but they are trying to sell it to Europe and the United States under this brand. In return, the Azerbaijani government is trying to get a license from James Bond to completely defeat the opposition, faithful to republican values. However, democratic values are still stronger than gas. 39 countries refused to issue this license," the leader of REAL writes. -0-
