Intigam Aliyev is not provided with qualified health care
The convicted human rights defender Intigam Aliyev suffers serious health problems. According to his daughter Narmin, her father Intigam Aliyev have not been yet placed in hospitals of the Ministry of Justice, and is treated in cell.
Because of the problems in the spine, he cannot stand. Therefore, for two weeks, he cannot meet with family members. Only now his lawyers were able to visit him, but the meetings were short, because he could not sit for a long time. The human rights activist also said that for more than 20 days he was not given the newspaper "Azadlig", and all his letters are confiscated. Attempts of Turan to get comments from the Chief Medical Office of the Justice Ministry failed.
On May 21 the ombudsman's office reported that members of the National Preventive Group for the Prevention of Torture conducted monitoring in Baku detention center. They met with Intigam Aliyev, Leyla Yunus, Khadija Ismailova, Rasul Jafarov, and others. During individual interviews, they did not complain about the conditions of detention and treatment, according to the press service of the Ombudsman.
*Intigam Aliyev was arrested on August 8, 2014, and on April 22 this year, he was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison on charges of economic crimes. However, the guilt of the human rights defender has been proved neither by the investigation, nor by the court, and the charges were politically motivated. Amnesty International recognized Aliyev "prisoner of conscience." -16D06-
