Lawyers of Nadir Salifov complain of arbitrariness of prison administration
On Friday the lawyers of a famous criminal boss Nadir Salifov, nicknamed "Lotu Gulu", held a press conference in the International Media Center.
The lawyers Kamandar Nasibov, Tarana Aliyeva and Gulnara Khudabakhishova reminded that their client is serving a sentence in the colony number 8. They complained that when entering the prison, in addition to the usual general inspection, they are subjected using to additional screening. According to Kamandara Nasibov, in such case they have drawn protocols with participation of witnesses. Women-lawyers were inspected in the room without cameras, what is contrary to law.
The regime has toughened against the lawyers of Salifov on November 1, said Gulnara Khudabakhishova. "They wanted to inspect us in a separate room with no cameras and even undress," she said. In this regard, an enquiry was sent to jail №8 Murtuz Sadikhov, which was followed by a strange answer that lawyers were
inspect in the same manner as the family members. "We are not relatives of Nadir Salifova, we are his lawyers, and therefore, the administration's actions were illegal," said Khudabakhishova.
According to her, on November 1, the lawyers appealed to the relevant bodies, and even the president's administration, but no response came.
The lawyers also said that their client is not allowed to meet with his daughter. Nadir Salifov claimed that still did not understand why he was convicted again.
Salifov was sentenced to a long term on charges of rape. It is noteworthy, that in 2007 Salifov’s girl-friend visited him in jail, and later she wrote a statement about the rape. Salifovwas sentenced to a new term, which he must serve till 2021.
According to one version, he was punished for the refusal to say that he murdered the journalist Elmar Huseynov. -0-
