External investments of SOCAR, the problem of ineffective control over food products and poor quality of domestic gas are the leading topics of the media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan published an article on Azerbaijan's investments abroad.
As a result of the successful oil strategy, the state company SOCAR has become one of the major investors in the Turkish market.
In particular, the petrochemical company Petkim owned by SOCAR has a capacity of 3.6 million tons of products per year. In addition, SOCAR acquired the Star refinery with annual capacity of 10 million tons.
Along with this, SOCAR is building a large port in Turkey.
The article also talks about large objects of SOCAR in Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine, and Romania.
The newspaper Novoye Vremya writes about the poor quality of domestic gas. This was written by the Vice-President of the National Academy of Sciences Ibrahim Guliyev in his article in the publication Khalg Gazeti.
The article notes that in the composition of the household gas supplied to the population, there are mixtures that do not meet the requirements of the standards, as well as non-combustible heavy hydrocarbon mixtures. In addition, some of the cleaning devices at the gas distribution stations are long obsolete and do not meet modern requirements:
"Despite the implementation of certain measures to prevent possible accidents, explosions (fires) still take place due to gas leakage, as well as gas poisoning with a lethal outcome," the author writes.
He proposes to deliver modern, modular gas cleaning units to the republic, to establish them first of all at enterprises of important spheres (oil and gas extraction departments). In addition, it is necessary to provide farms engaged in the extraction and distribution of natural gas, automated facilities and equipment that guarantees quality based on new technologies, and also to strengthen control over the quality and rules of operation of gas appliances delivered to the country.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat touches upon the topic of food security of the population.
Since July 1, the functions of control over the quality of imported food products have been transferred to the Food Safety Agency. It was delegated authority for hygienic certification, export goods, and consumer protection. However, experts doubt the effectiveness of control. In addition, re-registration will require entrepreneurs to waste time.
The expert Natig Jafarli considers it impossible for the agency to exercise control over the whole chain. It is necessary to use the best international experience, when control belongs to the consumers themselves. If there is no civil control, then the new administrative powers of the agency will create additional problems for business. -0-
