Media Review November 18, 2019
The situation with the implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor project, experts' views on budget discussions, and obstacles to the development of the non-oil sector are the topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the situation with the implementation of the project Southern Gas Corridor. Azerbaijan was the initiator and leader in this matter. The author recalls that the contract for the Shahdeniz gas field was signed in 1996. Today this field is the main resource base of SGC. With reference to BT, the author notes that over the 9 months of this year, 12.2 billion standard cubic meters of gas and about 2.6 million tons (21 million barrels) of condensate were received from the Shahdeniz Alpha and Shahdeniz Bravo platforms.
Currently, the total capacity of production plants is 56 million standard cubic meters per day. New wells have been drilled for Shahdeniz, and 16 have been drilled for Shahdeniz-2.
Gas from the Shahdeniz field passes 443 km across Azerbaijan, and 248 km across Georgia to reach the borders of Turkey, and from there it is transported to Europe.
The website Musavat.com discusses with the experts the state budget for 2020. The author recalls that the draft budget was discussed in parliament for three days at plenary meetings, as well as meetings of parliamentary commissions.
Expert Rovshan Agayev expressed satisfaction with disclosing the classification of economic expenses in the budget, which is being done for the first time. The expert hopes that from now on, investment expenses, as well as the functional and economic classification of expenses for all cities and regions of the country will be disclosed. The expert also believes that little time is allocated to discuss the draft budget.
The website Oxu.az writes that the main obstacle to the development of the non-oil sector is the lack of a competitive environment, discussing this issue with expert Parviz Heydarov. He believes that for a more rapid development of the non-oil sector there must be such conditions as business activity, initiative and market factors, and we have a monopoly, lack of competition, and uneducated entrepreneurs. –0---

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
