The development of the Baku Metro, the possible impact of US sanctions against Iran, and a sharp increase in the number of people with diabetes are the leading topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the activities of the Baku Metro, opened on November 7, 1967. It was the first in the Middle East and the fifth in the territory of the USSR.
The author speaks about the great role of Heydar Aliyev in the construction of the Baku Metro. The opening of many of the first metro stations fell on the period of H. Aliyev"s leadership in Azerbaijan.
Now, the length of the underground line is 36.6 km, and 22.3 km were laid during the reign of Heydar Aliyev, the author writes.
During the reign of Ilham Aliyev in April 2016, two metro stations were opened - Bus Station and Memar Ajemi-2.
In 2008-2011, additional exits from metro stations were opened, and the car fleet of the metro was updated.
The Bizimyol website writes about the possible impact of US sanctions on Iran, which cover the Iranian National Oil Company, as well as the National Tanker Company. The restrictions regard the purchase of oil from Iran, petroleum products and petrochemical products. The sanctions consist of two phases, the first of which, 90 days, is completed. On November 5, the second stage began and it will last 180 days.
These sanctions will have an impact on Azerbaijan, where there are 700 Iranian companies.
The website Oxu.az writes about a sharp increase in the number of patients with diabetes. The situation is commented on by the employee of the Ministry of Health, Nabil Seyidov. According to him, on average annually the number of diabetics increases by 26-30 thousand people. In Azerbaijan, 242,000 people are registered with this diagnosis. It is expected that next year the number of diabetics will reach 270 thousand people.
