Penitentiary Service Denies Reports of Riot in Kurdakhani Prison
In recent days, several media have published false information about illegal actions against prisoners in Prisons No 13 and No 6, as well as in the Kurdakhani Detention Center No 1, where supposedly extortion takes place, causing prisoners to riot and the authorities to send special force to suppress the riots, the Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan stated.
“The management and staff of the Penitentiary Service consider such publications as defamation and a desire to cast a shadow on the ongoing recent positive steps in the service, and to excite discontent among the prisoners and their relatives.
The Penitentiary Service informs the public that today's publication on the websites haqqın.az and virtualaz.org entitled Revolt in Detention Center, Army Entered has no foundation and is defamatory.
The operational environment is stable and under full control. The execution of sentences and the legislation is fully complied with,” the statement says.
The above-mentioned publications reported a rebellion in the Detention Center in Kurdakhani, where prisoners staged a revolt and attacked the guards, wounding the prison’s chief and deputy chief. -16D-
