The Azerbaijan-Russian relations, the prospect of cotton growing, reduction of the purchasing power of the population, and the problems of urban heating systems are the leading topics of today's press.

The Azerbaijan newspaper has published an article on the Azerbaijani-Russian relations. The author writes that after Heydar Aliyev came to power in 1993 the relations with the northern neighbor were normalized and developed. The article pointed out that regional relations play an important role in this relationship. The author regards the annual theme of the Azerbaijani-Russian inter-regional forum and the Azerbaijani Diaspora in Russia.

The website www.azadliq.info discusses the development of cotton growing in Azerbaijan with the expert Vahid Maharramov, reports on the contribution it will make to the economy.

The article says that this year the demand for cotton in the world is small. According to statistics, the annual demand for cotton on the world market is 24 million tons.

In 2015, Azerbaijan earned $ 29 million from cotton exports – it is minuscule. In general, the production of cotton is not profitable because the cost is high and the quality is low, the expert says. He believes that fruit and vegetable production development is a more profitable area. The expert also recalls that the price of cotton on the world market continues to fall.

Echo has published an article on cheap alcohol. Consumer goods continue to fall in Azerbaijan including alcohol and part of the population prefers cheap alcohol. At the same time, beer is not very popular. The number of people consuming alcohol in the country is reduced, which is connected not only with economic difficulties, but also with the increasing number of religious people.

Novoye Vremya has published an article about the poor condition of the heating system in Baku. The problems are not only in apartments, but also in schools.

According to recent reports, the company Azeristilik has a debt to the supplier of gas, Azerigas, which is 80 million manat. The company supplies heat to 184 Baku schools and 121 kindergartens. In the regions the company provides heating to 105 schools and 36 kindergartens.  –0--
