The success of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy, the hazardous nuances in the Karabakh issue, the level of corruption in the country and the state of the financial system are the leading topics of today's press.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the country's decent and reliable partnership in the international community. The author calls the priorities of the foreign policy, including the international community to achieve the recognition of Armenia as an aggressor country, to ensure the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and to expand mutual cooperation with major countries. The motto of the foreign policy of Ilham Aliyev is a strong state – an independent policy.
The website Azadliq.info publishes the opinions of the former Azerbaijani ambassador Arif Mammadov that with such power the country could soon lose its independence. Commenting on the statement of Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister that Karabakh is not an internal affair of Azerbaijan, Mammadov noted the silence of official Baku.
In the documents of the European Union on Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine it is clearly stated that the territorial integrity of these countries is recognized within their internationally recognized borders. In the document related to Azerbaijan, the phrase "within the internationally recognized borders" is missing. Moreover, the wording was rejected by Azerbaijan, allegedly in order to prevent damage that could be caused to the negotiation process with Armenia, and at the request of France.
According to Mammadov, Azerbaijan's foreign policy has failed on all fronts.
Echo has published an article entitled Corruption - Rust that Corrodes Azerbaijan. The level of corruption in Azerbaijan did not decrease in 2016. Moreover, there is no reason to make optimistic forecasts for 2017. This type of crime prevails in almost all public sectors, except ASAN Khidmet. Of course, the law enforcement agencies regularly prosecute persons involved in corruption crimes, but as a rule, they are small fry.
