Press Review for 1/18/13

The first pages of the official press include reports of Ilham Aliyev receiving the delegation of the Pentagon and the establishment of the organizing committee for the First European Olympics, led by Mrs. Aliyeva.

The second and third bands place material critical of the human rights activist Leyla Yunus - for "cooperation with the Armenians" and Rustam Ibragimbekov - for criticizing the government.

Separately, all official newspapers publish critical materials on Freedom House, calling it anti-Islamic organization and incompetent at the same time.

Azadlig

The newspaper made the front page interview with playwright Rustam Ibragimbekov, where he said about the inevitable social unrest in the country, the consolidation of the opposition and the establishment of the National Council with the nomination of a single candidate in the presidential elections.

The former head of the Binagadi district Ali Gojayev and the chief of staff to the Ministry of Education Ilham Pirmamedov have been subpoenaed to the investigation in connection with the video revelations from Elshad Abdullayev. The names of both these persons are mentioned in the case of the former rector transferring money to Ramiz Mehdiyev.

About 200 families of Syrian Armenians have been brought to the occupied Zangilan region of Azerbaijan.

The paper considers the attack from the authorities on Rustam Ibragimbekov as "opposition of Azerbaijan to the Russian threat."

Khosrow Heybarov - one of the participants in the attack on the motorcade of Musavat in Lenkoran on January 13 was beaten by his villagers.
