Restoring the Jojug Mardjanly is the first step of the concept of "Great Return"
Restoring the village of Jojug Mardjanly in the Jabrail district will be the first pilot project for the return of IDPs to their homes. These steps are supported by international organizations, the official representative of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Hikmet Hajiyev told reporters. Azerbaijan has so far built 95 settlements and residential complexes, providing housing for 250.000 IDPs. But after restoring the Jojug Mardjanly the IDPs will have to return to their homes, he said, in turn, the deputy chairman of State Committee for Refugees Fuad Huseynov.
According to him, this is the first step in implementing the concept of "Great Return" of internally displaced persons from all areas. On the first stage will be restored 50 houses and 200 families have already asked to create the conditions for their return. All the inhabitants of this village will be returned on the next stage.
In early February, has begun preparation: cleaning the area from mines and unexploded ordnance. At the same time the work on the transfer of land plots to citizens in private ownership and economic development of the village.
According to the chief executive of the Jabrail region, Kamal Hasanov, before the occupation, in the village lived 1075 people - 283 families, there functioned school, library, medical point, post office, a mill, a local administration. The total village area was 1605 hectares, of which 1134 hectares are for agricultural land. Local residents were engaged in grain growing, vine growing, cattle breeding.
The villagers are located in 17 cities and regions of Azerbaijan. In the devastated village all those years lived one family – the Khazievs. They returned after the release of the village in January 1994.—06С-
