Seminar on "Role of media in developing intercultural dialogue"
"The role of media in the development of intercultural dialogue" was the theme of a seminar held at the initiative of the Turkish Businessmen Association (TURKSAB) on Tuesday in the International Press Centre.
The situation with intercultural dialogue in the modern world is not satisfactory, noted the participants. Since the 18th century European culture is accepted as only right and that is discrimination of other cultures.
According to the deputy, Ganira Pashayeva, including the topic of "Armenian genocide" in Western countries’ textbooks causes damage to intercultural dialogue. She believes that the media structures of Turkic states should give it a rebuff, and begin to work together to promote the social networks of various world cultures. She also proposed to make a special statement on the above issues.
A 20-minute film, shot at the Bahchashehr University of Turkey told about the role of culture of the Turkic-speaking peoples in the formation of world civilization.
Speaking after the screening of the film, a representative of the university, Bekir Karlyga, said that the cause of the current global crisis is the shortage of intelligence and a lack of understanding between cultures. There is a serious need for the creation of a TV program, bringing cultures together, he said.
The participants of the seminar condemned the cultivation of Islamophobia by certain circles. -05C04-
