Six PFPA Activists Detained in Connection with July 14-15 Rally
Baku / 17.07.20 / Turan: In recent days, 8 PFPA activists have been detained, including 6 in connection with the July 15 night rally in Baku. This was reported to Turan by the deputy chairman of the Popular Front Party Seymour Hazy.
In particular, a member of the PFPA presidium, a veteran of the Karabakh war, Asif Yusifli, activists Farid Asadov, Seymour Ahmedzadeh, Matanat Turan (Makhmarzayeva), Muhammed Imanli and Elvin Mammadov were detained.
They were detained in connection with the "Karabakh campaign" on July 14-15.
They are still being held in police stations and there is no detailed information about them.
Two days before Arif Pashayev was arrested. He actively participated in discussions on social networks in connection with the “Tovuz battles” and received 30 days of arrest.
Elvin Bahmanoglu was arrested for 15 days after participating in the funeral of Major Anar Novruzov, who died in battles on the border, in Masalli.
“PFPA activists did not participate in the incident in front of the parliament. Authorities use riots for another provocation against PFPA. This is the fulfillment of the appeal of Ilham Aliyev to begin repressions against the Popular Front Party,” said Hazy.
In turn, lawyer Elchin Sadigov noted that after the detention of the activists, they were illegally detained in the police for more than 48 hours. Within two days they should have been released, or sent to court. This is a violation of articles of the Constitution and the European Convention of Human Rights, as well as the Code of Administrative Offenses.
“Our telegrams to the Prosecutor General’s Office about illegal actions of the police in relation to the detainees, their detention in the police and the lack of conditions remained unanswered.
The intervention of the ombudsman’s apparatus also failed,” Sadigov wrote on his Facebook page. -03B-
