Term of Khurshudov's Punishment Reduced by Six Months
Baku / 30.08.18 / Turan: The Shirvan Court of Appeal considered the complaint against the verdict on the Musavat Party's activist Alikram Khurshudov sentenced to 5 years of imprisonment on charges of hooliganism.
The court reduced the prison sentence by six months, the lawyer Osman Kazimov told Turan IA.
The defender criticized the verdict of the Court of Appeal.
In his opinion, this decision only imitates the existence of an independent judicial system in the country and aims to mask the political motives for Khurshudov's arrest.
The defense will file a cassation appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.
* The head of the Shirvan city organization of the Musavat party, Alikram Khurshudov, was arrested in November 2017. In May this year, the Shirvan City Court sentenced him to 5 years in prison. Musavat Party believes that Khurshudov is persecuted for political reasons for spreading information in the social networks of illegal business of the Shirvan city head, corruption in the region, as well as admission of employees of state-run organizations to the ruling New Azerbaijan Party by administrative methods. The meetings of the local organization of the Musavat Party were held in Khurshudov's house. "The real reasons for Khurshudov's arrest are related to the above-mentioned activities," the Musavat party earlier said. -05B06-
