The Alliance for Human Rights calls on to release political prisoners on the eve of the European games

The Public Alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners" made a statement in which he condemned the conviction of the head of Human Rights Club and board member of the movement REAL Rasul Jafarov. The statement  of the Alliance reads that a preliminary investigation  in the case of Jafarov was carried out by  political order, and this was confirmed in the verdict imprisonment  the human rights defender  for 6.5 years. The Alliance believes that the verdict is a political order of the authorities, and Jafarov has been punished for human rights activities. Alliance also condemned the request of the prosecutor tose4ntence Jafarov to  10 years in prison, and human rights activist Intigam Aliyev, the author of dozens of books on the law,  a man protecting for free many in need of support.

The statement also expressed protest against the detention in Gobustan prison a journalist Araz Guliyev (editor in chief of the religious site 44xeber.com) and other prisoners who protested against the killing of  Elshad Babayev in the jail N12.

Alliance stated  the continuation  of the practice of politically motivated arrests. In particular, after the meeting of the National Council on April 5 were subjected to administrative arrests Turkel Azertyurk, Sagif Gurbanov and Ruslan Nasirli.

In addition, a ban  was imposed on leaving the country  by former political prisoners Elshan Hasanov and Bashir Suleymanli.  The Alliance calls on the eve of the European games, in accordance with the principles of the Olympic movement,  to release all political prisoners, and an to stop the persecution of civil  activists.-06D-
