The flames over the Caspian Sea - was an eruption of a mud volcano on "Dashly" island
Baku /05.07.21 / Turan: A huge flame that appeared in the Caspian on the evening of July 4 and was visible all the way from Absheron to Neftchala turned out to be an eruption of a mud volcano on "Dashly" island, SOCAR said.
In connection with the appearance of a flame over the Caspian Sea, SOCAR's industrial facilities were not damaged. All offshore platforms and industrial facilities continue to operate normally, the report said.
At the same time, in order to identify the causes of the fire at sea, SOCAR headed to the scene of the incident with a ship with personnel.
The company representatives observed a natural eruption of a mud volcano 30 km away. from the coast between the city of Neftchala (175 km. south of Baku) and the village of Alat (80 km. south of Baku) on the island of Dashly (Stone).
During the observation, the flames subsided, there are no oil industry infrastructure nearby, the report said.
At the same time, it is noted that “as a result of the eruption of mud volcanoes associated with oil and gas fields, emissions of methane and other combustible gases were also observed in the past.” - 06D-
