The newspaper "Azadlig"celebrates 29th anniversary

Baku / 24.12.18 / Turan: Twenty nine years ago on this day was released the first issue of the Azadlig newspaper. It became the pioneer of the modern democratic press of Azerbaijan.Azadlig was originally a press organ of the Popular Front of Azerbaijan (PFA), later the foundation was transferred to the editorial staff. Its first chief editor was a member of the board of the NFA, the late Najaf Najafov. The newspaper was periodically subjected to pressure. After the Soviet troops entered Baku in January 1990, its release was temporarily suspended.Alas, the newspaper is still under pressure.Currently, two of its employees, Seymour Hazy and Zia Asadli, are under arrest, many of them, led by editor GanimatZahid, are in forced emigration.Since September 2016, the printing of a newspaper has been discontinued. In 2017, access to the online version of the newspaper was blocked in Azerbaijan."The history of the Azadlig newspaper is the history of freedom in Azerbaijan. But now, the newspaper is living hard times. Its release is suspended. For two years no one has appealed to the editor with problems, complaints, and sorrows,"said RovshanHajibeyli, the newspaper"s editor. At the same time, he is optimistic about the future of the newspaper and the country."We have always lived in hope and are not losing it now. We hope that the newspaper will be restored again, and will develop together with the renewed team,"said Hajibeyli. -06D--
