Why is education in Azerbaijan poor?
Problems of school education in Azerbaijan are explored in the book: "Support for mechanisms of public examination of secondary education quality," which was presented on Thursday in the "Novosti - Azerbaijan" agency. The book was prepared by the NGO "Education Center - 21" under the project funded by the State Council to Support NGOs.
The publication contains information on international standards of secondary education, the policy of different countries in the area, local experiences. Also, we investigate the problem of education in the modern school, the teacher's role in the Muslim scholarly tradition, the Western school, etc.
The book also includes the results of a survey conducted among 100 teachers, 100 students, and 100 parents; 26% of parents said that they had to be content with the level of education provided by the state; 35% are not satisfied with this level; 35% of parents reported that they have to look for alternative education; 41% hope that the state will settle these problems. Survey participants also pointed to the negative impact of corruption, poor management of schools, the low public interest in education, low teacher salaries.
"The teacher who teaches 12 hours a week, receives only 110 manat a month. Teacher with working experience more than 18 years, receives 143 manat. A teacher with a low salary can not be responsible for something," said the head of the NGO "Education Center - 21" Etibar Aliyev.
Experts also point to the politicization of the educational system and textbooks. "International experience shows that in the countries with the politicized education, quality of education is low," said the expert Alovsat Osmanli. –03B06-
