My dear friend Khadijeh Ismail,
I am in the city of Bergen. The name of this city is a reminder of human rights and freedom of speech. A seminar about women´s rights in Islamic countries is taking place here these days and the participants are from different countries. My friend and your dear colleague, Malahat is also present. I am please to have this wonderful opportunity to see my old friend here. Sometime ago, I received through an email, the news about the difficulties your are facing in Azerbaijan and I have protested against your arrest. During this trip, Malahat has explained to me in details about your activism and have shared with me the news about the arrest of ten journalists and bloggers because there is no freedom of speech
My good friend:
Freedom of speech is the first step towards democracy How can a country call itself democrat and yet imprison its journalists? In a country such as Norway, to speak about social justice, fighting against corruption, transparent elections, the irradiation of any form of discrimination is very easy. However, in some countries, one's life or freedom can be in danger if speaking about any of these issues. I admire your courage. You were not fearful of putting your life or your freedom in danger when talking about justice. Be assured that the seed you have planted today shall become a big plam tree tomorrow. The path you have started, your colleagues will continue it. I look forward to seeing the day when I can see you free.

Public figure and scholar Dr. Jamil Hasanly has expressed deep concern over the arrest of Natig Javadly, a journalist from Meydan TV, who has been charged with smuggling and placed in four months of pre-trial detention. For those familiar with him, this turn of events is hard to believe. Known for his integrity, intellect, and devotion to the truth, Javadly is considered one of Azerbaijan’s most respected journalists and thinkers.

"Human rights" derive their foundation from justice. Justice is natural and connected to creation. From the moment of birth, this right is naturally granted to every person. Law, however, is something given — limited to what parliaments deem appropriate for us. The extent to which parliament represents justice and fairness is always a matter of debate.

Why the Azerbaijani authorities use various institutions for the purpose of arresting journalists, writers, commentators, scientists, and activists is incomprehensible.

In Ukraine, a brutal, bloody war caused by Russian aggression continues, claiming lives, destroying homes, demolishing infrastructure, and inflicting incalculable harm on the environment and surrounding natural ecosystems. Ukraine, more than anyone else in this world, strives for peace, as we bear the daily brutality of this Russian-Ukrainian war. We are at the forefront of the struggle for the right to life, freedom, and justice. Ukraine seeks a just peace that will lay a solid foundation for a stable future for Europe and the World, and the only way of achieving this is to implement President Volodymyr Zelensky's Peace Formula (the Ukrainian Peace Formula).
