Book about Ziya Buniatov published in Amsterdam
Baku/27.06.23/Turan: Sara Krombach's book "Myth-making and Nation-building. Ziya Bunyatov and the Construction of Azerbaijan's Past".
Historian Sarah Krombach has conducted a sociological analysis of Academician Z. Bunyadov's contribution to the development of historical and Orientalist science in Azerbaijan.
Her research is based on numerous interviews with relatives of the Academician, employees of the Institute of Oriental Studies, where he worked for many years and then was director, as well as many others who knew Ziya Bunyadov closely. These included Jamil Hasanli, Isa Gambar, Hikmet Hajizade, other Azerbaijani politicians, as well as Arif Yunus and Leyla Yunus, attending the launch of the new book in Amsterdam.
"Sarah Crombach tried to show through the figure of Z.Buniatov how the history of Azerbaijan changed during the Soviet period and the period of independence, what myths existed in historical science during the Soviet period and after the collapse of the USSR, as well as what problems the country faced in the 80-90s. Krombach paid much attention to the Karabakh conflict as well as the history of the emergence of the Popular Front and its struggle for the independence of the country. The book is very interesting and, as befits a real scientific work, debatable", A. Yunus characterized the publication.
A historian by profession, Sarah Krombach is also a professional pianist and recitalist. She accompanied her presentation on June 25th with a performance of many pieces of music. In particular, she performed 12 musical etudes by Fikret Amirov.
In 2019, Crombach, who is a researcher at the University of Amsterdam, defended her doctoral thesis on the role of Academician Ziya Buniatov in Azerbaijani historiography.
This work formed the basis of her book "Myth-making and Nation-building. Ziya Bunyatov and the Construction of Azerbaijan's Past.-0-

In a world increasingly marred by the effects of climate change, art has emerged as an unexpected, yet powerful, platform for raising awareness and sparking conversations on environmental responsibility. One such endeavor is the exhibition "A Different Kind of Climate," currently on display at Kapellhaus with support from the Goethe-Institut. The timing of this exhibition is no coincidence, aligning with the upcoming COP29, the UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Baku from November 11 to 22. The exhibition seeks to engage audiences on pressing ecological issues, blending local and international perspectives.

Amid the urban hustle and the cacophony of modern life, it is easy to forget that nature too has a voice. But artist Elnara Nasirli, with her latest exhibition "Whisper of the Forest - The Magic of Sound," seeks to remind us of nature's pulse — and its message. Now showing at the Gazelli Art House, Nasirli’s multidisciplinary showcase brings the audience closer to the heart of the forest, where every rustle, every whisper, seems to echo with life.
