Import of Cars Rapidly Shrinking
From the beginning of the year, authorized distributors, as well as private persons brought 24,219 cars to Azerbaijan. It is 27,867 less than in January-October 2014. Experts believe this is a result of objective reasons.
This year the government raised excise duties on imports of motor vehicles. And since last year, there are new, more stringent environmental standards for imported cars. At the same time, market participants point out that the car market has weakened considerably: both the number of imported cars and their secondary market is reduced.
While within 10 months of 2014 Azerbaijan delivered 47,379 cars from abroad, during the same period in 2015 21,497 cars were purchased abroad.
It is noteworthy that the statements of experts about the decline of business activity in the country are also proved by the number of delivered trucks (1,750; - 57.6%) and special equipment (215, -31.1%).
On the occasion of first European Games in Baku this summer the government purchased several hundred modern buses. Since the beginning of the year 757 buses and minibuses have been imported, which is 487 more than in 10 months of 2014. ----08D
