No Serious Changes in Labor Market in 2014
As of December 1, the Azerbaijan's economy included 1 507 500 people working on contracts with employers. On an annual basis, that is, in the last 12 months, the number of employees increased by only 1,600 people.
The government reports the opening of not less than 100 000 new jobs, creating hundreds of industrial and other enterprises in 2014. However, the same official statistics confirm that we can talk only about the temporary jobs created by individuals, mainly in trade and services.
It is noteworthy that in the last 12 months, the number of workers employed in the public sector decreased by 18.1 thousand, or 2%. 624,000 people worked in the private sector as of 1 December 2014. This is 3% (19.9 thousand) more than a year earlier.
Note that the government claims that as a result of its economic policy since October 2003 about 1.3 million new jobs or annually 100,000 were opened in the country since October 2003 and the unemployment rate is 5%. -----08B
