Occultism as a new economic sector in Azerbaijan
Last year, the citizens of Azerbaijan for the services of psychics, shamans, soothsayers and astrologers paid $ 200 million, said the chairman of the Center for Economic and Social Development Vugar Bayramov.
This is not only a sector of the economy, but also a record figure for a small country, which is three times the budget expenditure for the Administration of the President and several times the spending on the maintenance of staff of ministries. Total expenditure on science in the state budget this year, was provided at the level of AZN 130.5 million ($ 166.2 million) for pre-school and primary education - 145.8 million manat ($ 185.7 million) , and clinics and outpatient treatment - 98.08 million manat ($ 125 million). On the judicial system, including the judiciary, allocated 41.41 million manat ($ 52.8 million) for the needs of national security - 106.44 million manat ($ 135.6 million), and so on.
There are several reasons for increased interest in the occult. One of them is the active raising of the so-called end of the world. The second reason is lack of confidence in government programs. Opinion polls show that the local traditional medicine for one hundred percent trust the only one-fifth of the population. Low-income people prefer home remedies treatment, while some others go mainly to the CIS countries and Iran. A lot of money is spent on healers. The third reason is open and hidden unemployment at most of the population.
Indicative are the figures for governmental support for the agricultural sector. For agriculture in the state program of food security there is provided 125 million ($ 159.2 million), and for Entrepreneurship Support Fund there is provided AZN 150 million ($ 191.1 million). It is not enough, given the fact that the soils of Azerbaijan are highly susceptible to erosion. Even according to official data (http://static.bsu.az/w8/Xeberler%20Jurnali/Tebiet%20%202011%20%202/168-172.pdf), in Azerbaijan 41.8% of the soil is subject to varying degrees of erosion. In this case, the bulk of the reduction in the soil unfit for human activities have to - because of the lack or absence of "blue fuel" trees are cut down, but because of poor forage cattle trampling the ground in forests.
Very little money is paid to the real culture and education - the culture of "spinning" around the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and is associated with the care of its president, the formation of a predominantly nominal. The culture and art of government this year has allocated 120.79 million ($ 153.8 million) on the development of radio, television and publishing - 61.26 million ($ 78 million) directly to physical education, sport and Tourism - 48.97 million ($ 62.38 million). This is despite the fact that the direct budgetary costs (excluding transfers from the State Oil Fund) for investment projects this year will amount to 6 billion 934.23 million manat ($ 8.83 billion). To this we must add billions of dollars in subsidies to state monopolies in the field of irrigation, transport, provide utilities services to represent the difference relations of power to sons and stepsons. - 17D -
