Fines for absenteeism of Georgian deputies will go to help the population of Turkey
The Georgian parliament announced that all the money withheld from deputies for absenteeism in December will be used to purchase humanitarian aid to Turkey, which suffered from a devastating earthquake.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said that he had sent a corresponding request to the Treasury Board.
At the same time, Papuashvili called on all deputies and members of parliament to transfer money to a specially opened charity account to help Turkey.
The death toll from the earthquake in Turkey has reached 9057, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said. The number of wounded exceeded 52 thousand. In the affected provinces, 6444 buildings collapsed.
The Turkish Embassy appealed for help to the residents of Georgia, announcing the collection of humanitarian aid.
