Aliyev rights protection committee demands his release
Baku/26.01.22/Turan: The committee to protect rights of the head of the "Citizens and Development" Party (CDP) called on the public not to remain indifferent to his arrest and support demands to discontinue illegal prosecution of the politician. This is said in a statement of the committee to potect rights of Aliyev.
Note that Aliyev was sentenced by Baku Yasamal court to five months of imprisonment on libel charges. The suit was filed by Emil Jafarov, an officer of the border service. The reason for the lawsuit was Aliyev's interview where he doubted that there could be survivors in the crashed Mi-17 helicopter of the Border Guard Service.
Note that Jafarov and another officer who survived the crash qualified Aliyev's statement as slander.
The committee to protect Aliyev's rights believes that Aliyev is being persecuted for the freedom of expression. This criminal case is not just against Aliyev but an attempt to stifle freedom of expression and speech, and is a violation of the right of citizens to participate in political and public life.
The atmosphere of repressions in the country is getting harsher while politically motivated criminal prosecutions are becoming more frequent.
The defense committee claims that Aliyev's trial was not objective, fair and impartial.
Note that the document was signed by more than 70 public and political figures, journalists, intellectuals and human rights activists.-06B-
