2015 February 14 (Saturday) 14:01:03
The former member of the party Musavat Alovsat Sadykhly and his son Elghiz were detained in Baku yesterday. The latter is charged with possession of drugs.
Another son of Sadykhly, Tural, who is a political emigrant in Germany, wrote on his page on Facebook: "My father Alovsat was detained on charges of resisting the police, and my brother Elgiz was arrested on trumped-up drug charges."
Tural connects the detention of his father and brother with his political activities in the emigration.
On February 11, he wrote that in connection with the organization of protests in Berlin on January 21 during a visit by President Ilham Aliyev, the officials started to exert pressure on his relatives in Baku.
Commenting on these allegations, the deputy head of the press service of the Interior Ministry Ehsan Zahidov told Turan the detention of Elgihz Sadykhly has no political overtones. According to him, Sabunchu District Police confiscated 5.32 grams of marijuana from him. And during the inspection of his car they found 1 kg 505 grams of marijuana. The Sabunchu police launched a criminal case on this.
The rights of Elgiz’s father are protected by the lawyer Yavar Hussein, who told Turan, that Alovsat Sadykhly was brought to administrative liability under Article 310.1 (disobedience to police). He allegedly insulted a policeman.
On Saturday, the court reviewed the case and in the afternoon it is going to to announce the decision. A. Sadykhly faces up to 30 days in jail.
Elgiz wrote about his father on his page on Facebook: «For many years my father was involved in the fight against the Aliyev regime. Until recently he was a member of the party Musavat. He edits a portal Azadsoz.com. But after the arrest of my father and brother the site has been blocked. My brother took an active part in protest actions." -03B-
