Appeal of the participants of the conference on the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict
The participants of the international conference "The Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict: the main obstacles and prospects of settlement: a view from Armenia and Azerbaijan" adopted on Tuesday an appeal to the President and people of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved within the framework of the internationally recognized borders of states. The events in April 2016 showed the presence of high risk of the renewed war, while the funds spent on military purposes can be spent on the improvement of people's welfare. "The Armenian and Azerbaijani people are tired of this tension. We need to stop thinking that someone would come and help us," noted in circulation.
"Peaceful resolution of the conflict will contribute to economic growth in Azerbaijan and Armenia, which will give impetus to the strengthening of peace among nations. Armenia must leave the occupied territories, refugees and internally displaced persons should return to their native land," reads an appeal.
The fact that 30.000 Armenians live in Azerbaijan proves that there are no obstacles for peaceful living of the Armenian population in Azerbaijan." Opinions about the impossibility of coexistence of Armenians and Azerbaijanis should be rejected.
The idea of giving the highest autonomy within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan the Nagorno-Karabakh must be considered, preference should be given to dialogue of Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno Karabakh. It requires the fulfillment of the UN Security Council resolution.
Taking into the Helsinki Final Act, we must do everything to ensure the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan," the document says. The conference was also attended by Armenian dissident Vahe Asetyan and Vahan Martirosyan. -06D--
