Attack on Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum
On the night of October 4 near the village Sarikamis in the Turkish province of Kars, there was an explosion on the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. As a result, imports of gas from Azerbaijan completely suspended.
This year it has been the second disruption of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline. Moreover, the two explosions occurred in the same place. This time, as reported by the Turkish portal HaberMonitor, the blast was heard 20 kilometers from the place.
Last time it took 10 days to restore the pipeline and resume gas exports. The Turkish authorities called both explosions a terrorist act.
Today's attack did not lead to a halt in gas production in the field Shah Deniz in the Caspian Sea, where the gas enters the pipeline.
The press service of BP-Azerbaijan reported that most of the gas produced from Shah Deniz is temporarily accumulated in Azerbaijan. At the same time, certain amounts are received in the domestic market and the rest is sent to the underground gas storage of SOCAR. It is about 6 million cubic meters a day.
In BP-Azerbaijan they said that the company BOTAS (Turkish pipeline operator) has not released information about the timing of the reversal of the pipeline.
Note that Shah Deniz daily produces about 17 million cubic meters of gas, out of which 9 million comes to Turkey. -12B-

He criticised his predecessor Nursultan Nazarbayev and actually accused him of provoking mass riots in the country in January 2020.

Azerbaijan is positioning itself as a key energy partner for Europe amidst growing challenges in the natural gas market following the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine. The disruption, marking the end of a decade-long transit route, is expected to heighten competition in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market and drive up prices for alternative energy sources.
