G7 countries impose severe sanctions against Russia
New financial restrictions may come into force as early as Monday, according to a statement released by the White House website .
"Taking into account the importance of ensuring a successful and peaceful democratic vote in the presidential election in Ukraine, we are committed to act immediately to strengthen targeted sanctions and measures that will make Russia pay a higher price for their actions," the statement said.
G7 supported Kiev, noting that the Ukrainian government showed restraint during an operation in the eastern regions of the country. "Russia has not taken specific action in accordance with the Geneva agreements," said a statement. Russia continues increasing tension in Ukraine by statements and military exercises on the border with Ukraine, which cause a growing concern, say leaders of G7.
