Jafarov: No Talk about Creation of Turkish Military Base in Azerbaijan
The intergovernmental protocol for the transfer of a military airport terminal in the village Zeynalabdin Tagiyev and homes and buildings in the settlement Gizil Sharg in Baku to the Turkish Armed Forces has just registered what already existed in practice. Such an opinion in an interview with Turan was expressed by the military expert Uzeir Jafarov.
In fact, the Turkish military has used the airport terminal in Zeynalabdin Tagiyev for deployment and supply of military aircraft taking part in joint exercises. And in the settlement Gizil Sharg one of the residential buildings is inhabited by Turkish military - the instructors and officers involved in exercises. There are a number of ancillary buildings. Now these objects have received a diplomatic status, continued Jafarov. Probably, similar facilities will be also used by the Azerbaijani military in Turkey, participating in regular exercises, he added.
However, he stressed that the transfer of these objects to the use of Turkish military does not mean the creation of a military base of Turkey.
Firstly, to build a military base in Azerbaijan, Turkey should provide an amendment to the country's military doctrine, which excludes military bases abroad. Secondly, a military base is a completely closed territory with autonomous control of foreign military.
In this case we are talking about the use of the airfield in the village Zeynalabdin Tagiyev.
The settlement Gizil Sharg is an open area in Baku, where the civilian population lives. -06D--
