Kyiv Asks Baku for Extradition of Man Accused of Attack on Mustafa Nayem
Baku / 07.05.18 / Turan: The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine appealed to the authorities of Azerbaijan to extradite the citizen of this country Magomed Saitov, accused of attacking the Verkhovna Rada deputy, journalist Mustafa Nayem.
This was reported on Monday by the press service of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor General's Office.
As stated in the press release, on May 4, the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine appealed to Baku about extradition of Saitov announced in the international search to Kyiv.
It was established that Saitov left Ukraine on April 30, 2018 and flew to Baku. On May 2, by the decision of the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv, a preventive measure of arrest was chosen against him.
Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan established the location of Saitov in Baku, and he was brought to the prosecutor's office. However, since no extradition documents were received on Saitov, he was just taken a signed commitment not to leave the country.
"After presenting the extradition documents to the Azerbaijani side, the issue of the extradition of this person to Ukraine will be considered in accordance with the requirements of the international treaties of Azerbaijan and the national legislation," it was said in conclusion.
* On April 30, in the center of Kyiv, Nayem's car violated the traffic for a Mercedes and a quarrel began. At that moment a BMW car drove up to them, UNIAN reported. During the conflict, one of the men struck the MP in the face. The attackers disappeared from the scene. Nayem was hospitalized and subsequently operated. Law enforcers detained three men suspected of the assault - two citizens of Russia and one citizen of Ukraine. They are suspected of committing a crime under part 2 of article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The fourth suspect, Magomed-Amin Saitov, flew to Baku on the day of the attack. He was declared suspicious in absentia of committing the crimes provided for by Part 2 of Article 296 (hooliganism) and Part 1 of Article 122 (intentional moderate injury) of the Criminal Code, and he was put on the wanted list. The lawyer Oleg Ishchenko, who represents the interests of the NGO Diaspora of the Chechen People, said Magomed-Amin Saitov will return to Kyiv after the end of the boxing tournament in Baku, where he intended to go before the conflict.
However, according to law enforcement bodies of Ukraine, Saitov purchased an air ticket to Baku after the incident, having learned that the victim was an MP. -06D--
