Natig Karimov Considers Claims of His Mates at Islamic Party Unfounded
At a meeting of the Supreme Majlis of the Islamic Party its members discussed the party's representation in the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF).
In particular, the meeting took stock of the support by a member of the Supreme Assembly of the party Natig Karimov to the presidential candidate, representative of NCDF Jamil Hasanli.
However, due to the fact that Natig Karimov for many years has been a member of the Islamic Party and has merits before it, no specific decision against him was taken. However, the Deputy Chairman Akif Heydarli called the discussion a "warning" to Natig Karimov.
Karimov himself told Turan that he participates in NCDF as a representative of the Council of Elders of Nardaran. He believes that all the remarks are unfounded. However, he is not going to "dive into this issue in order not to cause losses to the interests of the party."
A position was expressed also by a member of the Supreme Assembly of the Islamic Party Rovshan Ahmedly. He said that he was represented at the National Council on behalf of the Islamic Resistance Movement "For Freedom of Karabakh." He said he had not issued any statement in support of the NCDF candidate in the presidential election.
The Islamic Party of Azerbaijan supported the presidential candidate of the party Adalat (Justice) Ilyas Ismailov at the presidential elections on October 9. Some members of the party preferred to support the candidate of NCDF. This issue was the subject of a dispute.
The position of the Islamic party in the elections looked rather strange.
The fact is that among the presidential candidates, Jamil Hasanli was the most active one in protecting the rights of the arrested Islamists. He demanded the release of all political prisoners, including the leader of the Islamic Party Movsum Samedov and its other activists, and reputable theologians Abgul Suleimanov and Taleh Bagirzadeh. The latter two also called on their supporters to vote for Hasanli.
As for Natig Karimov, he is one of the most influential figures of the Islamic Party and the elders of Nardaran. -05D/B04-
