NGOs continue fight against the reactionary amendments to legislation
The heads of the NGOs of Azerbaijan have outlined new control measures to combat the entry into force of reactionary amendments to legislation relating to the activities of civil society, which have been adopted by the parliament on December 17.
These decisions were taken at a meeting of the Committee to protect the rights of civil society (CPRCS) held on January 24 at the office of the IRFS.
CPRCS was established on December 30 in order to consolidate the struggle against the reactionary amendments to the legislation toughening fines for violations in NGO activities , which create obstacles for unregistered NGOs that extend suspension of registration for NGOs, etc.
On January 16 the CPRCS held a Civil Society Forum , where more than 100 NGOs signed a petition to the president not to sign the reactionary laws.
According to a member of the CPRCS, Gubad Ibadoglu, the CPRCS should be ready for three variants of the situation, the refusal to sign the amendments, some of them signing, and full approval of amendments.
According to a member of the CPRCS, Leyla Aliyeva , a number of international NGOs have launched a campaign to support Azerbaijani NGOs .
However, CPRCS prepared an appeal to the Council of Europe with the aim of influencing the Azerbaijani authorities with the aim not to approve the amendment.
Until January 27, the text will be opened for signature, next week IRFS Director Emin Huseynov will deliver the message to Strasbourg and give leadership of PACE CE and other structures.
