Police launched an operation to capture Istanbul"s Taksim Square

On Tuesday morning, the Turkish police launched an operation to clean the Taksim Square in Istanbul, where more than 10 days there have been protests and spread the tents of the protesters. According to Turkish media, the police used tear gas and water cannons.

According to the AP, the police operate under the cover of armored vehicles. They surrounded the area and blocked all the exits.
Reuters reports that a small group of protesters is pelting police with "Molotov cocktails." However, Turkish online resources claim that they were provocateurs sent by the authorities.
Currently, the Internet channel halhaber.tv is broadcasting live from Taksim.
Earlier, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised to meet with the protesters on June 12 to discuss their demands. The governor of Istanbul, in turn, apologized for being too harsh with the police action.
But today's military action is likely to aggravate the situation in the country and bring about new protests in different places.
* Riots in Turkey began after authorities broke up the peaceful protests against the reconstruction of the Taksim Square and the adjacent park Gezi. Soon the excitement covered many major cities of the country, and protesters also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. -02D-
