Pro-Pussy-Riot Rally to be Staged Opposite Russian Embassy in Baku
The human rights campaign "Sing for Democracy” plans to hold a rally in front of the Russian Embassy in Baku, protesting the conviction of punk group Pussy Riot for two years in prison in Russia. The three performers staged a punk prayer service in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in February of this year.
Participants in the action will demand the arrested girls release. Organizers have notified the Baku Mayoralty.
As noted by the coordinator of the campaign, Rasul Jafarov, organizers respect religious feelings of Orthodox Christians, but believe the sentence imposed on the punk girls is disproportionally harsh and made on political orders.
In addition, a special Facebook group in connection with this action has been formed on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/308504165913425/.
The human rights campaign "Sing for Democracy" was organized by a group of local NGOs in order to attract attention from local and international democratic communities, to the problems of human rights in Azerbaijan brought on by Eurovision 2012, which took place in May of this year. - 06D –
