REAL can go to the presidential election with its candidate
Civil Movement "Republican Alternative" (REAL) may nominate a candidate in the presidential elections 16 October 2013. This issue was discussed at the January 6 meeting of the organization’s Board.
As the Chairman of REAL Ilgar Mamedov told Turan, if within a month no response comes from other political forces on its initiatives in connection with the elections, it would nominate its candidate. So, in the summer, REAL declared readiness not to nominate a candidate and to support a single candidate from the opposition. However, the question of a single candidate is always a stumbling block in the consolidation of the opposition, and has eventually led to its defeat.
"We believe that the consolidation should be based on a clear campaign platform for the transition period and the long-term perspective, on the proposals for the future of personal composition of the country's leadership, and a firm promise to nominate a single candidate eight months before the Election Day. Unfortunately, we have not heard answers to these proposals. So, we’ll wait a month and take a final decision on the participation in the elections. Most likely, REAL will go to the polls with its own candidate," said Mamedov.
Earlier, the idea of nominating a single candidate from the Public Chamber bringing together the leading opposition forces failed.
* REAL was created in late 2008, however, it has been participating in political affairs since 2011. At present, the number of members of the movement across the country is about 1,000. The REAL credo is reflected in the formula "REAL: Republic, Reliability, Man, Progress." -06B-
