Russia continues to lose allies, Israel is next
Baku/25.07.22/Turan: On July 21, the Russian Ministry of Justice called on the country's authorities to liquidate the Russian representative office of the Jewish agency "Sohnut". After that, the Israeli Prime Minister announced the preparation of a delegation to visit Moscow and resolve the issue through diplomatic means. However, the delegation could not fly to Moscow, because the Russian side did not issue them visas.
Moscow's actions irritated Israel which threatened to change its "neutral" position on the war in Ukraine. The Israeli Foreign Ministry will prepare "political measures" in case the Sohnut is liquidated. Tel Aviv will be ready to take political action in the event of the closure of the Sokhnut agency in Russia, which was engaged in repatriation. Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid warned that the liquidation of the agency would harm relations with Russia.
The Israeli government may join international sanctions, said former Ambassador to Russia Zvi Magen.
According to the Israeli media, the Russian side explained the liquidation of Sohnut by the fact that this organization is engaged in the repatriation of Russians who are engaged in science and entrepreneurship, and their departure "significantly reduces the scientific and business potential of Russia."
It should be noted that the mass exodus from Russia to many countries of the world began after the aggression against Ukraine. According to unofficial data, about 100.000 people arrived in Israel in the five months after the start of the war. These are mostly qualified young people.
Note that Sohnut organization has offices and partners in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Rostov-on-Don, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Pyatigorsk, Samara, Khabarovsk and Novosibirsk. It was founded in 1929 to repatriate Jews to Israel. -02D-
