Samad Seyidov does not recognize PACE's sanction against him
Baku / 16.05.18 / Turan: The head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE, Samad Seyidov, asserts that the sanctions imposed by the PACE Committee on the procedure do not have any significance. At the same time, he called the sanctions "double standards" against Azerbaijan. He stated this at a press conference on Wednesday, which he did for some reason at the University of Foreign Languages.
The PACE Committee adopted sanctions against Seyidov and three other deputies of the assembly in connection with allegations of corruption in the report of the Independent Investigation Group set up by the Bureau of the Assembly. Within two years, Seyidov will not be able to be a rapporteur in PACE, participate in election monitoring, be elected chairman of the committee and subcommittees, represent the assembly in third-party events, send inquiries to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. He can only participate in the work of the assembly.
"The announced decision is an integral part of double standards. It is groundless. This is in the hands of forces that do not like Azerbaijan," said Seyidov. According to him, MPs who had raised the Karabakh issue in the PACE were subjected to sanctions.
Seyidov also said that the decision of the PACE Committee will not affect the work of the Azerbaijani delegation. Further developing his wild fantasy, Seyidov called sanctions a testimony to the "crisis" in PACE.
Seyidov promised that the Azerbaijani delegation would give a worthy response to Armenia, since the sanctions against the Azerbaijani were taken precisely because of the Karabakh issue.
Despite what has happened, Azerbaijan will remain in the Council of Europe and continue the struggle, Seyidov said. It should be noted that until now official Baku welcomed the position of the Council of Europe on the Karabakh issue. Thus, the head of state Ilham Aliyev regularly mentions resolutions of the Council of Europe among international organizations that recognize Azerbaijan's just position. However, judging by everything, the assessments of the head of state and Samad Seyidov do not coincide in all. -05B-
