The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia is transformed into an Organization
Baku/13.10.22/Turan:On Octover 13, in Astana, at the plenary session of the sixth summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICBMA) held at the initiative of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who presides over the forum of the leaders of the Asian countries, the CICBMA wass transformed from a forum into an organization.
The summit also adopted a number of documents, including the statement of the heads of state on security cooperation in the field of IT technologies, the CICBMA action plan for the implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy, and the regulation on the CICBMA Fund.
Kuwait became the 28th CICBMA member. Its entry into the organization was unanimously adopted by representatives of 27 participating states of the meeting.
President Tokayev expressed hope that the transformation of the CICBMA into a full-fledged international organization would play an important role in promoting mediation and peacemaking.
This mission of the organization was confirmed today by the bilateral meeting of Presidents Erdogan and Putin, which was devoted mainly to Ukraine and Syria. The Sixth CICBMA summit, which is being held in Astana on October 12-13, is timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the initiative to convene the Meeting.
The idea of convening the CICBMA was first put forward by Kazakhstan in October 1992 at the 47th session of the UN General Assembly. CICBMA is making efforts to develop and implement multilateral confidence-building measures aimed at strengthening peace, security and stability in Asia, as well as enhancing cooperation in relevant areas.—0—
