Bak/12.09.23/Turan: The Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC) called for the immediate release from prison of opposition politician and scientist Gubad Ibadoglu.
This call was made on September 12, the day when the politician turns 52.
"Gubad Ibadoglu has been in prison since July 23 on false and politically motivated charges. He did nothing more than express disagreement with the policy of his government and publicly expressed his personal opinion.
For many years, Ibadoglu has been one of the brave leaders of civil society in Azerbaijan, ready to explore such dangerous topics as corruption, human rights violations, and defended human rights and democratic principles in Azerbaijan.
His activism sheds light on many truths that the Azerbaijani authorities would prefer to hide, and he pays dearly for his bold and legitimate activities.
Admiring his activity and dedication, the NHC repeats its call for his immediate and unconditional release," the statemeent of the organization. ---0---
