U.S. 'Encourages' Sanctions Against Iranian Decision Makers To Combat Hostile Actions
Washington D.C./07.07.23/Turan: The United States on Thursday welcomed Britain's decision to create a new sanctions regime for Iran saying that it "encouraged" additional measures by "all like-minded partners to address Iran’s hostile actions," TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
The move came as the British Foreign Ministry announced new designations against Tehran, explaining that the mullah regime had been "oppressing its own people, exporting bloodshed in Ukraine and the Middle East, and threatening to kill and kidnap on UK soil," as foreign minister James Cleverly put it.
The State Department, in its turn, said that Iran’s hostile activities "contrast starkly with the United States' efforts to seek de-escalation and secure a more integrated, prosperous Middle East region."
"We will continue to stand with the UK and the international community to counter Iran’s destabilizing actions, its proliferation of weapons, its brutal repression at home, and its threats against individuals around the world," spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement.
"We once again condemn Iran’s plots against U.S. citizens and citizens of other countries, and we reiterate our resolve to work with the UK and other allies and partners to deter and respond to any threats or attacks by Iran," Miller added.
