While teachers are used for election fraud, there will not be education, expert
The results of the entrance test exams to universities this year indicate a lack of significant progress in the education system of Azerbaijan, said in an interview with Turan the former head of the State Commission for Students admission Vurgun Eyyubov. Schools have lost the function of providing knowledge, literacy and education. This function perform now private tutors, he said.
People involved in this sphere note low levels of education, but state structures continue to persistently deny it. In the past 25 years in addition to the introduction of the test system in the field of education, no major reforms were carried out.
Measures presented as reforms did not have positive results, and even had negative impact.
What reforms should take place in the field of education? Answering this question Eyyub said that the educational sphere is a single mechanism, and its parts cannot be considered individually. Due to absence of reforms in society and governance, there are no positive results and steps in education.
"I would like to draw attention to one important point: as long as secondary education is not spared from dependence on local authorities, school principals and heads of departments of education will act by the orders of administrations. Until school teachers are involved in the election fraud, there will be no progress in the field of education in Azerbaijan," continued Eyub.
He emphasized the need to change the content of education and the quality of textbooks.
"There is no need to download high school students with unnecessary theoretical knowledge. Secondary education should be practically oriented," Eyyub said. He also pointed to the low level of funding for education. This can be seen in comparison to the financing of education in other countries.
With the current salaries of teachers it is impossible to demand from them a high level of teaching.
