Avaz Zeynalov Requires to Remove Charges against Him on Gular Akhmedova"s Complaint

On Tuesday in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes at the trial against the editor of the "Khural" newspaper Avaz Zeynalov a number of witnesses had to perform.

However, they were not at the trial. In particular, the court did not reach the witnesses for the prosecution - the son of former MP Guler Akhmedova Togrul Akhmedov and the head of the Public Union of Azeri-Turkish Women Tanzila Rustamkhanli.

The judge explained it by the fact that these persons are currently abroad. Another witness Vugar Mamedov, as it turned out, still February 2 departed from the country to Dubai and never returned to Azerbaijan.

However, the accused Zeynalov protested the court, stating that the judge was to bar from traveling out of the country to the witness during the trial.

Next Zeynalov said that he refused to testify, because the main complainant Gular Akhmedova and her son and other witnesses do not come to court.

Then he made a request to drop the charges under articles 311.3.3 (bribery in the large size) and 311.3.4 (bribery using threats) of the Criminal Code and demanded his release.

He explained this by the fact that after the video interview with the former MP Gular Akhmedova and the former Rector of Azerbaijan International University Elshad Abdullayev "about bidding for the deputy's mandate," the former MP became involved in a bribery case.

However, the public prosecutor Ramazan Hadiyev opposed all the applications by Zeynalov. And the judge did not grant the motion, and scheduled the next hearing for 10.00 on 18 October. -06D -
