Azerbaijani sportsmen won 10 medals at the Olympic Games in London

 

Azerbaijani freestyle athlete, Khetag Gazyumov (96 kg) on ??the last day of the Olympic Games in London, won the bronze medal in the competition.

Gazyumov in the opening match in the eighth finals, met with a representative of Belarus Ruslan Sheikhov. Gazyumov won both rounds of a minimum score of 1-0, 1-0 in the quarterfinals went, where he gave Andriytsev Valery from Ukraine 1:2 (1:0, 0:1, 1:4).

Especially not less, to the final output Andriytsev Gazyumovu allowed to continue fight for the bronze medal in the repechage fights.

In the consolation match Gazyumov won a landslide victory over Rustam Iskenderi from Tajikistan 2-0 (3-1, 3-0).

In the battle for bronze  Gazyumov was to meet with Iranian Reza Yazdani. However, the Iranian athlete due to injury declined by out on the carpet and the winner of this pair has been declared a representative of Azerbaijan.

Thus, the 29-year-old native of North Ossetia Gazyumov repeated the result of a 4-year-old at the Beijing Olympics, which also was awarded the bronze medal. Since becoming champion and vice-world champion, he won three gold medals at European championships.

Another Azerbaijani wrestler Jabrayil Hasanov (66 kg) was close to becoming a bronze winner at the Games, but in the decisive battle, he gave up to his opponent from Cuba.

In the eighth finals Hasanov confidently won the Bulgarian Leonid Bazan 2-0 (3:0, 3:1). In the quarter-final the Azerbaijani sportsmen won Ali Shabanov from Belarus.

However, in the semi-final the Azeri wrestler lost to the Japanese Tatshuhiro Yonemitsu 0:2 (0:2, 0:1).

In the battle for the bronze medal Hasanov met with Cuban Lebanon Lopez. Despite winning the first round 3-0, in the second part fight Lopez took the initiative and won a clear victory.

Recall that only the Olympic Games in London was attended by 53 Representatives of Azerbaijan, who were in the competition to 16 sports.

Total Azerbaijani sportsmen won 10 medals. Olympic champions were wrestlers Togrul Askerov (60 kg) and Sharif Sharifov (84 kg). Silver medals were won in Greco-Roman wrestler style Rovshan Bayramov (55 kg) and the female athlete wrestling Mariya Stadnik (48 kg). Bronze medals were a wrestler Greco-Roman style Emin Akhmedov (74 kg), freestyle wrestler Khetag Gazyumov (96 lbs.) athlete in women's freestyle wrestling Yuliya Ratkevich (55 kg.) weightlifter Valentin Hristov (56 kg), as well as boxers Teymur Mammadov (91 kg) and Magomedrasul Majidov (over 91 kg.).

Of the 10 Olympic medalists, four are from Azerbaijani school in wrestling and boxing, and six  are naturalized legionnaires  involved in the Azerbaijani team.

In the end, with 2 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals Azerbaijani national team in the unofficial team standings divided the 29-30 places with Poland.

Azerbaijani sportsmen as representatives of an independent state perform at the Olympics since 1996 Azerbaijani Olympic Games have achieved the following results: in Atlanta in 1996 was won a silver medal in Sydney 2000 - three (two gold medals, one bronze), in Athens in 2004 - five (one gold and four bronze medals) and in Beijing in 2008 - seven medals (one gold, two silver and four bronze medals). - 06D-
